Happy first birthday, Faceless Child

Around this time last year, I had the chance to become a mom to a newborn child. A child I will call ‘Facel
ess Child’. I still wonder often about… him… Was he a girl or a boy? I will never know the answer to that, I guess. Anyway, he just celebrated his first birthday around the first or second week of this month, or did he? Was he able to celebrate? Is he alive? Is he still with his birthmother or was he given away? Or sold? Ahh, too many questions and you are probably wondering why.
To know the background to the story of ‘Faceless Child’, you can click here.
I will probably be remembering this child every January for the rest of my life. While he will remain faceless and nameless to me, he, along with Tommy represent two sides of the adoption spectrum in the country. The faceless infant who could have been my child for a year now is the face of thousands of children being born out of wedlock and unwanted teenage pregnancies and being trafficked for a measly sum. Tommy is the face of thousands of other children being cared for in orphanages, homes, institutions and rehabilitation centers who age every minute without anyone to call family or a place to call home.
They are the reasons I am now advocating for a cause that would make domestic legal adoption easier and affordable for Filipino families. Would you support this advocacy? Would you rally alongside us? We are knocking on your hearts to join us by spreading the word, make it viral and help us create a body of concerned citizens that would not only champion the cause of Filipino children but also educate our society to embrace families formed through adoption without biases or discrimination.
